Window sills are an important accessory to every window and you need them if:

  • you are installing new windows and doors, whether it is a new building or renovation
  • you are building a new facade while keeping the existing windows (if the insulation thickness changes, the old sills will not be wide enough)
  • you are decorating the interior and want to achieve greater usability, easier maintenance and enhance the aesthetic impression of your windows with sills

Outdoor benches

The main function of an external window sill is to drain rainwater that flows down the window in a way that prevents water from entering under the window frame, prevents the window sill itself from getting wet, and avoids water from flowing down the facade. In order to successfully perform this function, the sill must be:

  • made of quality material such as natural stone
  • installed with sufficient slope
  • the drip system must successfully drain water (see attached sketches)
  • the connection with the window must be sealed

Interior benches

Interior window sills have a less critical function, but they are a practical element next to your window, and will also complement your home with their natural appearance.

Wall benches - gravestones of walls and fence parapets

Concrete and brick fences all need covers, wall pegs to prevent soaking and degradation of these walls. By installing covers made of natural stone, you give your fence quality protection with a natural character.

Material selection

Like most other exterior parts of a house, window sills are exposed to many influences. Not only are they exposed to wind, rain, snow, ice and sun, but window sills are often leaned against and loaded with various objects, most often flower pots.

Interior window sills are less exposed to atmospheric influences, but they are still significantly affected by the sun's UV radiation, and they are also very often exposed to temperature stresses, since they are most often placed next to radiators that heat the sill, and on the other hand, the windows cool them.

For the above reasons, it is very important that the sills are made of quality material that is capable of withstanding all these influences for many years, because the costs of possibly replacing inadequate sills will certainly exceed the initial cost of quality stone sills.

If you choose granite for your outdoor countertops, or any natural stone (marble, limestone, travertine, granite) for your indoor countertops, you will have countertops that will last as long as the entire building. Granite countertops will certainly stand the test of time without bending, cracking, or any degradation, while softer types of stone in the interior will ensure all quality requirements with a superior natural aesthetic note.
